Brian Helton, a political figure from West Virginia, posted a series of tweets between May 23 and May 25, 2026, addressing coal mining, sports legislation, and Memorial Day.
On May 23, Helton referenced his family’s history in the coal industry and advocated for revitalizing coal mining jobs. He stated, “Great news for West Virginia coal country! Both of my grandfathers and all of my uncles were coal miners. This is how I grew up. We have to fight back against the war on coal and get our coal miners back to work.” West Virginia has historically relied on coal mining as a key economic driver, though recent years have seen a decline in production due to shifts in energy markets and regulatory pressures.
On May 25, Helton commented on state athletics legislation by referencing a recent track championship. He wrote, “This state track championship proves why WV passed the Save Women’s Sports Act. A liberal judge blocked common sense, but I’m confident the Supreme Court will restore fairness to girls’ sports. Children deserve compassion and guidance not adults pretending biology isn’t real.” The Save Women’s Sports Act is part of ongoing debates across several states regarding participation of transgender athletes in school sports.
Also on May 25, Helton acknowledged Memorial Day with a message honoring military service members: “Today we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.” Memorial Day is observed annually in the United States to remember those who died while serving in the armed forces.
