WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has announced funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to the Clarksburg Water Board (CWB) for water system upgrades. The funding, which was secured through a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) request made by Senator Capito, will provide support for service line replacements and emergency repair and remediation of a water main break.
Ranking Member Capito worked closely with the water board and the EPA to address potential contamination and develop a plan for removal and remediation. She expressed her satisfaction with the allocation of resources to the Clarksburg Water Board, which has been working diligently to ensure their customers throughout Harrison County have access to safe and reliable water sources during system renovations.
Clarksburg Water Board Manager Jason Myers emphasized the importance of maintaining and improving aging water infrastructure to ensure safe drinking water and protect the environment. He expressed gratitude towards Senator Capito for her dedication to water infrastructure funding, stating that her efforts have made it possible for communities to finance much-needed projects that support homeowners, businesses, and the local economy. Myers described Senator Capito as a true champion for the industry.
The individual award details include a $6,880,000 EPA CDS award to the Clarksburg Water Board. The funds will be used to replace service lines in the Northview, Rosebud, and Stealey communities, as well as a transmission line off Van Buren Street. Additionally, the award will facilitate the repair and remediation of a water main break on West Pike Street in downtown Clarksburg.
This investment in the Clarksburg water system will contribute to the overall improvement of water quality and infrastructure in the area. It reflects the commitment of Senator Capito and the Clarksburg Water Board to ensure that residents have access to safe and reliable water sources.
