U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, who chairs the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, announced her support for the Republican reconciliation bill that recently passed in the Senate. The legislation will now proceed to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Senator Capito stated, “Today, the Senate moved President Trump’s agenda forward and acted on the mandate given to Congress by the American people.” She highlighted key provisions in the bill crafted through her committee aimed at reducing energy costs, cutting wasteful spending, and enhancing infrastructure investments.
The bill includes several significant measures: it halts the Inflation Reduction Act’s natural gas tax for a decade to provide stability for energy producers and preserve jobs while encouraging domestic production; it rescinds unspent funds from duplicative initiatives under EPW’s jurisdiction; repeals the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund; and introduces an opt-in fee program at the Council on Environmental Quality for faster environmental reviews under NEPA.
These legislative actions are designed to ensure reliable energy supply, reduce unnecessary expenditures, and facilitate development projects across communities in America.
