U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, along with several colleagues, has urged the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to release anticipated education formula funding. The senators addressed a letter to Russell Vought, Director of OMB, advocating for the implementation of the Fiscal Year 2025 Full-Year Continuing Resolution Act.
The legislation in question was signed into law by President Trump earlier this year and contains essential funding for states. This funding supports students, families, and local economies through various educational grants.
Senator Capito was joined by Senators John Boozman, Katie Britt, Susan Collins, Deb Fischer, John Hoeven, Jim Justice, Mitch McConnell, Lisa Murkowski, and Mike Rounds in signing the letter.
The senators expressed concern that withholding these funds would negatively impact local communities. They emphasized that such funds are crucial for programs like after-school care and adult education that have bipartisan support.
In their communication with Director Vought, they stressed the importance of allowing states to manage these funds according to local needs. They also assured him that these funds do not support radical programs but rather initiatives beneficial to communities.
The letter concluded with an invitation to collaborate with Director Vought and Secretary McMahon to ensure federal education funding is used effectively across states.
