Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, who chairs the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, expressed approval for the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision to begin deregulating rules from the Biden administration. These include the Clean Power Plan 2.0, which has been seen as detrimental to American energy production and states such as West Virginia.

Senator Capito stated, “The action taken by the Trump EPA today is exactly what needs to be done to secure American energy dominance and restore the communities who have been negatively impacted by regulations and overreach from the Biden administration.” She highlighted her longstanding opposition to regulations like the Clean Power Plan 2.0 and emphasized the importance of halting these rules along with others such as the Good Neighbor Plan and tailpipe rule.

She further noted that today’s actions mark a beginning in reversing regulations that have affected electric reliability over recent years. Capito stressed continued investment in baseload power generation using coal and natural gas while maintaining an inclusive energy strategy that also considers nuclear power and carbon capture technology.
