U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has expressed her support for the Republican Reconciliation bill, which recently passed in Washington, D.C. As chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee and a leading figure in crafting the legislative text within the Environment and Public Works Committee’s jurisdiction, Capito stated, “The Republican Reconciliation bill is a clear reflection of our priorities: securing our borders, rebuilding our military, preventing the largest tax increase in U.S. history, and unleashing American energy.”
The legislation aims to address various national issues while also bringing specific benefits to West Virginia. These include extending the Hydrogen Tax Credit until January 1, 2028, supporting small business owners with interest deductibility changes starting after December 31, 2024, and recognizing metallurgical coal as a critical mineral.
Further measures include significant investments in border security and immigration system improvements. The bill provides funding for law enforcement training and equipment, efforts against drug trafficking particularly fentanyl, and resources for rural health transformation programs.
Additionally, the legislation supports service members with $9 billion allocated for housing, healthcare, childcare, and education benefits. It also enhances several tax credits related to child care expenses and workforce development through Pell Grants.
Senator Capito highlighted that these provisions would put both West Virginia and the nation on a path to economic growth and energy independence.
