U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, has expressed her support for the Republican reconciliation bill following its passage in the Senate. The legislation will now proceed to the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Today, the Senate moved President Trump’s agenda forward and acted on the mandate given to Congress by the American people,” stated Chairman Capito. “Included in this bill are provisions I worked to craft through the EPW Committee that will lower energy costs for American families, return remaining taxpayer dollars spent recklessly by Democrats, and create more efficiency for infrastructure investments into our communities.”
The bill aims to address several key areas related to energy and infrastructure:
– It halts the Inflation Reduction Act’s natural gas tax for a decade, providing certainty for American energy producers and preserving jobs while encouraging domestic production to reduce consumer costs.
– Unspent funds from duplicative initiatives under EPW’s jurisdiction are rescinded.
– The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund is repealed along with its unobligated funds.
– An opt-in fee program is established at the Council on Environmental Quality for expedited environmental reviews under NEPA, setting specific timelines for completion once fees are paid.
Chairman Capito emphasized that Americans need reliable energy, reduced wasteful spending, and improved infrastructure development capabilities. She believes this legislation addresses these needs effectively.
