West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has announced that the state will provide an additional $2.5 million to support food banks and pantries as nearly 270,000 residents are set to lose access to new SNAP benefits starting November 1, 2025. This brings the total emergency food assistance from the state to $8.6 million in response to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Governor Morrisey stated that he and his team are closely monitoring the situation to ensure resources remain available for those in need. “Governor Morrisey and his team are monitoring the situation on the ground every day to ensure appropriate resources are available and will keep taking every step to ensure West Virginians don’t go hungry.”
The governor also called on individuals, businesses, churches, and community organizations across West Virginia to contribute donations directly to Facing Hunger Food Bank and Mountaineer Food Bank. Donations can be made online, with contributions split evenly between both organizations. More information about donating is available at https://facinghunger.org/donate-now/.
Families seeking food assistance or local pantry information can call 2-1-1 or visit wv211.org. Local Family Resource Networks (FRNs) are also available for community-based support and updated food distribution lists.
The state continues efforts alongside partners such as the National Guard to coordinate logistics and operations for distributing emergency food supplies.
