Governor Patrick Morrisey announced on March 20 a nearly $2 million contribution from the Governor’s Civil Contingency Fund to help complete a new taxiway at the North Central West Virginia Airport in Bridgeport. The funding, which comes from a federal matching appropriation, will support the final phase of a project that is now 98 percent finished and has a total cost of about $5 million.

The completion of the new taxiway is expected to connect the airport’s runway with its new $80 million terminal facility, enabling expanded commercial air service. The airport currently offers flights through Contour Airlines and Allegiant Air, and plans to add United Airlines’ SkyWest service in April.

“The new taxiway will connect our communities to expand air service, support economic development, and ensure the success of the airport’s new terminal,” said Governor Morrisey. “This is a strategic investment in jobs, tourism, and the future of our state.”

Deputy Airport Director Shawn Long said, “Completing this taxiway project is more than a construction milestone, it’s a strategic investment in our region’s future. It unlocks the full potential of our new terminal and positions our airport for long-term growth. We are especially grateful to Governor Morrisey for his leadership and support in helping make this project possible.”
