Governor Patrick Morrisey said on Mar. 16 that the announcement by global artificial intelligence infrastructure company Nscale to seek acquisition of American Intelligence & Power Corporation, including the Monarch Computer Campus in Mason County, is a significant endorsement for West Virginia’s future.
The governor said this development demonstrates that West Virginia is becoming an attractive location for industries expected to drive economic growth in the coming years. “This is another major vote of confidence in West Virginia’s future. A decision to expand the Monarch Compute Campus shows that our state is becoming a destination for the industries that will drive the next generation of economic growth,” Morrisey said.
Morrisey also pointed to recent legislative and strategic initiatives aimed at supporting such projects. “Our Microgrid legislation (HB 2014) along with our 50 by 50 energy strategy to raise West Virginia’s power capacity to 50 gigawatts by the year 2050 ensures that West Virginia will have the power capacity needed to support massive projects like artificial intelligence and advanced computing,” he said.
He added that companies seeking reliable energy, skilled workers, and a pro-growth environment are increasingly considering West Virginia as a top choice. “When companies are looking for reliable energy, skilled workers, and a pro-growth environment, West Virginia is increasingly at the top of the list,” Morrisey said.
The potential expansion signals continued interest from technology firms in locating operations within the state. Observers may look for further developments as Nscale moves forward with its plans.
