Governor Patrick Morrisey has announced that state employees in West Virginia will be given a half-day off before Thanksgiving. The decision was made official through a proclamation signed by the governor.

“In gratitude for the hard work and dedication from our state employees, it is fitting to provide them some additional time to spend with their families and loved ones,” said Governor Morrisey.

The directive allows state workers to leave after the first half of their shift on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. This benefit will not count against their accrued annual leave. The order applies only to employees of the State of West Virginia and does not extend to private sector workers, local government staff, or others who are not employed by the state.
