Governor Patrick Morrisey held a briefing in Charleston, West Virginia, to discuss the state’s preparations for a winter storm forecasted to affect the region over the weekend.
“While the forecasts may change, we want to make sure we are prepared to work together to keep our people safe,” said Governor Morrisey.
State agencies have been coordinating with local emergency managers, public safety officials, utilities, FEMA, the National Weather Service, and the Department of Homeland Security throughout the week. Non-governmental organizations also met on Friday to review plans related to food banks, shelters, and crisis response.
The State Emergency Response Center will be activated as needed to coordinate efforts focused on protecting lives and property.
Deputy Director of Emergency Management Matthew Blackwood advised residents to prepare for severe cold temperatures, dangerous travel conditions, and possible power outages. “This is about our response as a government, but also about the need for neighbors to look out for neighbors and plan ahead.”
