Governor Patrick Morrisey thanked the Legislature on March 13 for passing the Rural Health Transformation Program supplemental, a measure aimed at improving health care access in rural communities across the state.
The passage of this supplemental is significant because many families in rural areas face challenges such as long travel distances and limited options for basic medical care. The new measure is intended to provide flexibility to address these issues and improve the availability of services where they are most needed.
“I want to thank the Legislature for passing the Rural Health supplemental, which allows us to move forward with important steps to strengthen health care access in our rural communities. Too many families across our state face long drives or limited options when it comes to basic medical care. This measure gives us the flexibility to begin addressing those challenges and improving the availability of services where they are needed most,” Morrisey said.
He also emphasized that “access to quality health care is essential for building strong communities and a strong economy.” According to Morrisey, advancing this supplemental will help support rural providers, expand access to care, and ensure more families receive necessary medical services.
Morrisey concluded by expressing his intention to work with partners on implementing these improvements: “I look forward to working with our partners to implement these improvements and deliver meaningful results for the people of our state.”
The broader impact of this legislation could be seen in improved health outcomes and greater stability for rural health providers as resources are directed toward underserved areas.
