Governor Patrick Morrisey reiterated his support for an across-the-board income tax cut during remarks at the Tamarack Conference Center in Beckley. He emphasized that reducing the state income tax would help address affordability challenges faced by West Virginians.
“Nothing will do more to address affordability challenges for West Virginians than reducing the income tax burden,” Governor Morrisey said. “Our neighboring states are lowering their tax rates, and West Virginia should not remain the outlier. We need to stay competitive and make sure the people who earn the money get to keep more of it.”
Morrisey argued that returning money to taxpayers, along with pursuing pro-growth policies, is essential for West Virginia’s ability to compete with nearby states. He added that these measures, together with ongoing economic momentum, could lead to greater opportunities and improved affordability for families throughout the state.
“We have an opportunity to build on this momentum,” Governor Morrisey said. “West Virginia is attracting investment, creating jobs, and growing our economy. Now we must ensure that hardworking families feel the benefits of that success.”
Since October 2025, West Virginia has seen about $10.75 billion in private sector investment and more than 9,600 projected jobs created in the state. This includes projects such as a $4 billion Intelligence Center announced last week in Bedington and a $250 million Hope Gas pipeline project unveiled yesterday in Mason County.
