Governor Patrick Morrisey has directed that flags be flown at half-staff to honor former Delegate John Overington, who was the longest-serving member of the West Virginia House of Delegates.
“John Overington was a conservative warrior, a gentleman, and a friend to all who knew him,” Governor Morrisey said. “West Virginia owes him a debt of gratitude for his impeccable public service, his positive energy, and a life well lived. A seat in Heaven awaits his arrival, and I will miss the many conversations we shared.”
Overington represented Berkeley County and West Virginia in the House of Delegates for 34 years, from 1984 until 2018. He earned recognition as a consistent conservative voice and reliable presence within the Legislature. He also helped establish the Quad State Legislative Conference to promote collaboration among lawmakers from West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
