The U.S. House of Representatives has passed joint resolutions of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act aiming to repeal California’s waivers on electric vehicles. These waivers prohibit the sale of new gas-powered light-duty vehicles by 2035 and establish requirements for heavy-duty trucks and diesel engines.
Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, expressed approval following the House’s decision. “I congratulate my House colleagues for taking this important step towards eliminating the radical California waivers and displaying the bipartisan support behind reversing the EV mandate,” Capito stated.
The resolutions have also been presented in the Senate by Senators Deb Fischer and Markwayne Mullin, along with Capito. Chairman Capito emphasized the consequences of these waivers, asserting that they could severely impact the economy and result in job losses beyond California. She added, “We know these rules would not only eliminate consumer choice, but also create harmful impacts across multiple sectors of our economy that would lead to major job losses felt far outside of California.”
Capito is committed to collaborating with colleagues and Senate Republican leadership to explore ways to repeal the California mandates.
