Kanawha County Schools announced on Mar. 16 that students will not be required to make up snow days from the current school year, following a waiver granted by the West Virginia Department of Education for the 180-day instructional requirement.

The decision means that the last day of school for students is set to remain Friday, May 29. The district said this could change only if there is another full districtwide closure before the end of the school year. In such an event, Kanawha County Schools stated it would provide updates to families and staff.

According to the announcement, “Because of this waiver, snow days that have already occurred this school year will not need to be made up. At this time, the last day of school for students will remain Friday, May 29.” The district also clarified in its frequently asked questions section: “If Kanawha County Schools experiences another districtwide closure between now and the end of the school year, the calendar could change. Should that occur, the district will provide an update to families and staff.”
