Kanawha County Schools has announced the Employees of the Year for the 2024-2025 school year, honoring individuals whose dedication and service have made a significant impact on students and the school community. This year’s recipients include Karen Messinger, Norman Dotson, and Meleah Fisher.

Karen Messinger, Principal of Pinch Elementary School, has been named the 2024-2025 KCS Principal of the Year. With over 30 years in Kanawha County Schools, Mrs. Messinger began her career as a second-grade teacher before becoming principal seven years ago. She is recognized for implementing the Covey in Me philosophy at Pinch Elementary and for her commitment to recognizing students, faculty, and staff for their efforts both academically and within the community.

Norman Dotson, custodian at Richmond Elementary School, has been awarded the title of 2024-2025 KCS Service Person of the Year. Known affectionately as Mr. Norman by students, he is celebrated for his dedication to maintaining a clean and welcoming environment at Richmond Elementary. His efforts extend beyond custodial duties as he consistently connects with students, teachers, parents, and staff.

Meleah Fisher has been honored as the 2024-2025 KCS Teacher of the Year. Serving as Band Director at Herbert Hoover High School since 2000 after starting her career at DuPont High School in 1996, Ms. Fisher’s leadership has seen significant growth in Herbert Hoover’s band program. Following a devastating flood in 2016 that destroyed Herbert Hoover High School, she worked tirelessly to ensure band students had uniforms and instruments that year. Her contributions also extended to assisting Capital High School when they were without a band director.

Kanawha County Schools extends congratulations to these outstanding educators: “Congratulations to Karen, Norma [sic], and Meleah! Your leadership and passion for helping students is inspiring to see and KCS is a better place to work and learn because of you!”
