Students from various schools in Kanawha County gathered in Charleston on Tuesday to participate in the KCS Elementary Math Field Day. The event provided an opportunity for fourth and fifth graders to showcase their mathematical abilities through a series of challenges involving equations and formulas.

After a morning filled with intense problem-solving, the results were announced, highlighting those who will advance to the regional contest. The fourth-grade students advancing include Rodger Lin from Central Elementary School, Ella Alhamwi from Sacred Heart, Will Emrick from Overbrook Elementary School, and Charlie Johnstone from Holz Elementary School as an alternate.

For the fifth grade, Evan Cumberledge of Cross Lanes Christian, Ian Alhamwi of Sacred Heart, Irfan Oreshade of Holz Elementary School, and Mya Durden of Ruffner Elementary School earned spots to move forward.

The organizers expressed their pride in all participants. “Congratulations to every student who competed today! Each one of you should be extremely proud of the effort you put into this competition.”

The Math Field Day continues on Wednesday with competitions for students in grades 6th through 12th.
