U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, representing West Virginia, has collaborated with fellow legislators to propose the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 Commemorative Coin Act. The bill calls for the U.S. Mint to create coins to remember the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, marking their 25th anniversary. These coins are planned for release in 2027, with the sales covering production costs and additional proceeds directed to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum. The objective of the initiative is to support the museum’s mission to “Never Forget.”
Senator Capito expressed the importance of remembering the attacks, stating, “As we approach the 25th anniversary of the attack on America, with each passing year and day it becomes more necessary to tell the story of what happened that day. This story is told powerfully at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. I was proud to team up with my colleagues to introduce this legislation, which would mint a coin to help to preserve the lessons we need to never forget from that day and what it did to New York City and our nation.”
The initiative also has its counterpart in the House of Representatives, where Representative Dan Goldman and Representative Andrew Garbarino have introduced similar legislation. The proposal is endorsed by the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum.
