Rep. Carol Miller, a U.S. Congresswoman representing West Virginia’s 1st district, posted a series of statements on social media addressing the anniversary of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and the ongoing government shutdown she refers to as the “#SchumerShutdown.”
On October 7, 2025, Miller reflected on the events that took place two years prior in Israel, stating, “On October 7th, 2023, Hamas carried out a brutal and unprovoked attack on Israel, murdering over a thousand innocent civilians, including 40 Americans. Today, we mourn every life taken too soon and pray for the safe return of all those taken hostage. “.
Later that day, Miller addressed the ongoing government shutdown in Washington. She wrote, “Yesterday, I joined MetroNews Mid Day to discuss the ongoing #SchumerShutdown. The House has passed a clean, continuing resolution and I urge my Democrat colleagues in the Senate to end this political theater so we can get back to work for Americans.”
On October 8, Miller continued to express concern about the impact of the shutdown on federal operations and citizens. She posted: “Today marks one week of the #SchumerShutdown.
Our troops are going without pay, small business loans are being delayed, hardworking federal workers are missing paychecks, and critical disaster relief efforts like flood insurance are being stalled or frozen altogether.
It’s time”.
Miller has served in Congress since 2019 after replacing Evan Jenkins. Before her tenure in Washington, she was a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2018. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1950 and currently residing in Huntington, Miller graduated from Columbia College in South Carolina with a BA in 1972.
