Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) and her colleagues have introduced a resolution to mark the 10th anniversary of the first export shipment of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) produced in the continental United States. The first shipment took place on February 24, 2016, which was a significant development for U.S. energy production and export capabilities.
“As Co-Chair of the Energy Export Caucus, I see the critical role LNG plays in strengthening America’s energy dominance. LNG is a cornerstone of U.S. energy exports and supports good-paying jobs, all while bolstering our national security. I am proud to co-sponsor this resolution recognizing ten years of success since the first LNG export from the contiguous 48 states, and honoring the workers and innovators who made this historic achievement possible,” said Congresswoman Carol Miller.
Since that initial shipment, the United States has exported more than 8,500 LNG cargoes to over 40 countries and regions. This rapid growth has established the country as the world’s largest exporter of LNG. U.S. LNG exports have contributed to global energy stability, reduced reliance on adversarial suppliers, and supported economic growth and job creation domestically.
Carol Miller has represented West Virginia’s 1st district in Congress since 2019 after replacing Evan Jenkins. Before serving in Congress, she was a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates from 2006 to 2018. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1950, Miller currently lives in Huntington and graduated from Columbia College in South Carolina with a BA in 1972.
