West Virginia State University will host Launch Into Life, a resource fair for students and young adults with disabilities, on April 22 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the James C. Wilson Student Union, according to an announcement on Apr. 21.
The event aims to support youth and young adults between the ages of 14 and 25 as they prepare for independent adult life. The Appalachian Center for Independent Living, West Virginia State University, and the Walmart Spark Program are sponsoring the fair.
Participants will have access to a workshop focused on accessibility in college settings, specifically addressing differences between Section 504 Plans and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Attendees can also take part in a campus tour of West Virginia State University, meet community partners, and gather information about resources related to employment, education, independent living, and self-advocacy.
Resource providers will be present onsite so participants can ask questions directly and connect with organizations that offer relevant services. Organizers say there is a special focus on social engagement during the event by encouraging attendees to get active in their communities through volunteering opportunities or exploring personal interests.
The event is designed not only to reduce social isolation but also to help empower individuals by building confidence and fostering friendships among participants. More information about Launch Into Life is available at https://www.wvacil.org.
