West Virginia State University announced on Apr. 21 that it will host “Launch Into Life…A Resource Fair for Students and Young Adults with Disabilities” on Monday, May 11, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the James C. Wilson Student Union.

The event is sponsored by the Appalachian Center for Independent Living, West Virginia State University, and the Walmart Spark Program. It aims to support youth and young adults ages 14-25 with disabilities as they prepare for independent adult life.

Attendees will have access to a workshop titled “Accessibility for College Students: 504 Plans vs IEPs,” participate in a campus tour of West Virginia State University, meet community partners, and learn about resources related to employment, education, independent living, and self-advocacy. Resource providers will be present so participants can ask questions and connect directly with organizations that offer support services.

The event places special emphasis on social engagement by encouraging participants to get involved in activities that match their interests or talents, volunteer opportunities, and ways to build connections within their community. Organizers say this approach helps reduce social isolation while empowering individuals to gain confidence and develop a sense of purpose.

More information about the resource fair is available at the Appalachian Center for Independent Living.
