Yesterday, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Rehabilitation Science and Athletics Center at the University of Charleston, located in Charleston, West Virginia. The center, housed within Gorman Hall, will accommodate new occupational and physical therapy programs with modern labs, study rooms, meeting spaces, a classroom, offices, visitor locker rooms, and weight rooms for student athletes.
In September 2023, Senator Capito secured a Congressionally Directed Spending award for this project. She remarked on the collaboration that brought the facility to fruition: “The Morrison Rehabilitation Science and Athletics Center is a remarkable example of what can be accomplished when federal support, private philanthropy, and strong institutional leadership come together around a shared goal: to invest in the future of our students and in the health and wellness of our communities.” She further emphasized its role in preparing future healthcare professionals and student athletes.
University of Charleston President Marty Roth acknowledged Senator Capito’s contributions: “This is an exciting moment for the University of Charleston, and we could not have done it without Senator Capito’s support. The federal funding she secured played a major role in bringing the Morrison Center to life. This facility will have a lasting impact not just for our students but for the future of healthcare in West Virginia.”
The ceremony marked an important milestone for both education and healthcare sectors within the region.
