U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, who chairs the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, confirmed her support for Dr. Mehmet Oz’s appointment as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Capito emphasized the importance of maintaining the strength and accessibility of Medicare and Medicaid for millions of Americans, including those in West Virginia. “Ensuring that Medicare and Medicaid remain strong and accessible for millions of Americans, including many in my state of West Virginia, remains a priority,” she stated.

Dr. Oz, with his extensive medical background and understanding of challenges faced by patients and providers, is expected to assume leadership of CMS during a significant period for the U.S. healthcare system. “Dr. Oz brings a wealth of medical knowledge and a deep understanding of the challenges facing patients and providers alike. His experience as a physician and communicator uniquely positions him to lead CMS at an important time for our healthcare system,” Capito noted.

The Senator expressed her intention to collaborate with Dr. Oz to enhance healthcare solutions and improve health outcomes across the nation. “I look forward to working with him promote healthcare solutions, and improve health outcomes for families across our country,” she added.

In February, Capito met with Dr. Oz to discuss his nomination and further understand his vision for leading CMS.
