Senator Chris Rose, a fourth-generation coal miner and state legislator in West Virginia, addressed several issues affecting his constituents through a series of posts on social media in early April 2026.
On April 3, Rose drew attention to rising fuel costs in the state, stating: ” WV gas prices near $4/gallon at the pump! Our 50¢/gallon tax takes money families need for groceries & bills. I’m calling for an immediate 90-DAY GAS TAX SUSPENSION to provide relief NOW! Who’s with me?” He argued that suspending the state’s gasoline tax would help families manage their household expenses during a period of high fuel prices.
The following day, on April 4, Rose responded to news of fatalities within the mining community. He wrote: “Heartbroken by the tragic deaths of two WV coal miners, Aaron Warrix & Darin Reece. As a 4th gen coal miner myself, my prayers are with their families & the mining community. These brave men powered our nation. We honor their sacrifice by fighting for the future of WV coal.” The message reflects both personal connection and ongoing advocacy for mine safety and industry support.
On April 5, Rose shared an Easter greeting with his followers: “Happy Easter! Today we rejoice in the resurrection of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. His triumph over the grave brings hope, redemption, & eternal life. In the spirit of faith & family, may God bless you & your loved ones this Easter Sunday. He is risen!”
West Virginia has long been affected by fluctuations in energy markets and fuel prices due to its reliance on extractive industries such as coal mining and oil refining. State lawmakers have periodically debated adjustments to fuel taxes as residents face economic pressures from global market changes and inflationary trends.
