Senator Chris Rose, a fourth-generation West Virginia coal miner and current U.S. Senator, used his Twitter account on May 28 and 29, 2026, to advocate for the continued use of coal in West Virginia and to criticize legislative delays in Washington.
On May 28, Rose highlighted Governor Morrisey’s plan to invest $1.44 billion in refurbishing six coal-fired power plants across West Virginia. In his post, he stated, “WV is keeping coal in the fight! Governor Morrisey’s $1.44 billion plan will refurbish six coal-fired power plants, extending their operating lives by up to 20 years and preserving 10.5 GW of critical baseload power. This is about energy security, grid reliability, and https://t.co/yUkTKIUKBz” (May 28, 2026).
The following day, Rose expressed frustration over the Senate’s lack of action on the Save America Act. He wrote, “The DC swamp is STILL stalling — it’s May 29, 2026 and the Senate hasn’t passed the Save America Act! As a 4th-gen WV coal miner and Senator, I’m sick of bureaucrats playing games while our families pay the price. Pass it NOW! No more excuses. Who’s with me? Governor Patrick Morrisey has been a prominent supporter of West Virginia’s coal industry through various initiatives aimed at sustaining local jobs and maintaining grid reliability.
West Virginia remains one of the top coal-producing states in the United States. Coal-fired power plants play a significant role in providing baseload electricity for much of the region.
