Senator Jim Justice, representing West Virginia, shared a series of posts on social media reflecting on his first year in the U.S. Senate and reiterating his stance on the participation of transgender athletes in girls’ sports.
On January 13, 2026, Justice addressed supporters outside the Supreme Court, emphasizing his views on gender and athletics. He wrote: “I just spoke outside the Supreme Court as a fierce supporter of female athletes. Let me repeat it: biological males do not belong in girls’ sports. Period. I’ll keep fighting every day until our female athletes are guaranteed a fair playing field just as Title IX intended.”
The following day, marking one year since taking office as a U.S. Senator, Justice reflected on his service to West Virginia: “One year ago, I placed my hand on my Bible and took the oath as United States Senator. Later that same day, he reiterated his commitment to public service: “One year down. Still just getting started. Serving my great state is absolutely the honor of my life. When we pull the rope together, there is nothing we cannot do!”
Justice’s comments regarding transgender participation in sports align with ongoing national debates about athletic eligibility policies for transgender youth under Title IX—a federal law enacted in 1972 that prohibits sex-based discrimination in federally funded education programs and activities.
Prior to joining the Senate in 2025 after winning election as a Republican candidate from West Virginia, Jim Justice served two terms as Governor of West Virginia.
