U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito posted a series of statements on March 24, 2026, addressing both defense manufacturing in West Virginia and the ongoing Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown.

In her first post, Capito highlighted a recent meeting with Rear Admiral Rich Lofgren, Acting Chief of the Navy Reserve. She wrote on March 24, 2026: “Great to meet with the Acting Chief of @navy_reserve, Rear Admiral Rich Lofgren. RDML Lofgren recently visited West Virginia to view production lines for the KC-130J and meet the proud West Virginians who support critical defense manufacturing.”

Later that day, Capito addressed the ongoing DHS shutdown. On March 24, 2026, she stated: “We are now on day 39 of the @DHSgov Democrat Shutdown. Lines are getting longer and hardworking Americans are suffering at the hands of Democrats. This @DHSgov shutdown needs to end NOW.” In a subsequent post on March 24, 2026, she reiterated her stance: “It’s time for this @DHSgov Democrat shutdown to end.”

Shelley Moore Capito is recognized as the first woman elected to represent West Virginia in the U.S. Senate and has dedicated her career to public service for her state (official website). A seventh-generation West Virginian who grew up in Glen Dale, Capito serves on several Senate committees focused on appropriations, commerce, science and transportation, and environment and public works (official website).
