Shelley Moore Capito, U.S. Senator representing West Virginia, posted several statements on her social media account on March 17, 2026, addressing federal government operations, election security measures, and local contributions to the space program.
In a post from March 17, Capito criticized Democratic lawmakers over the ongoing shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). She wrote: “It has now been 32 days since @DHSgov has been shutdown thanks to Democrats. @DHSgov employees are showing up for the American people every day without pay. This nonsense behavior from Democrats needs to stop now.”
Later that day, Capito expressed support for voter identification laws and the SAVE America Act. In her words: “I have always been in support of requiring voter ID to ensure only registered, American citizens are able to vote. The SAVE America Act is simply a requirement for Americans to demonstrate their eligibility to vote. A vote against the SAVE Act is a vote against election” (March 17).
Capito also highlighted her visit with NASA officials at a facility in Fairmont, West Virginia. She stated: “ICYMI: Had the chance to visit Fairmont’s @NASAIVV_ERC facility with @NASAAdmin yesterday. West Virginia has played a critical role in America’s leadership in space, and I am always pleased to see the incredible work being done here—and the legacy that lives on at Katherine” (March 17).
Shelley Moore Capito has served as senator since 2015 and is known for her involvement in issues related to federal operations and science policy.
