Senator Shelley Moore Capito, representing West Virginia, addressed several issues on her Twitter account on November 4, 2025. Her posts included a tribute to former Vice President Dick Cheney and criticism of Senate Democrats over the ongoing government shutdown.
In her first tweet of the day, Capito honored Dick Cheney by stating, “A public servant of the highest order, Vice President Dick Cheney modeled integrity, loyalty, and patriotism both in private and in public. My father and I both had the privilege of working alongside Vice President Cheney over the years. Charlie and I extend our deepest” (posted on November 4, 2025).
Shortly after, she commented on the government shutdown with a direct message: “Enough is enough. End the #SchumerShutdown.” (posted on November 4, 2025).
Later that day, Capito continued to address the situation in Congress with another post directed at Senate Democrats: “Senate Democrats: Your political games are hurting real people. We need to reopen the government. Stop the #SchumerShutdown.” (posted on November 4, 2025).
Shelley Moore Capito has served as U.S. Senator from West Virginia since 2015 and previously represented West Virginia’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2001 to 2015.
The term “#SchumerShutdown” refers to a phrase used by some Republican lawmakers during recent budget impasses to blame Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and his party for lapses in government funding.
