U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito posted a series of messages on March 24, 2026, addressing support for the West Virginia National Guard, her stance on women’s sports, and welcoming a new colleague to the Senate.

In her first post of the day, Capito stated: “I always enjoy meeting with the Enlisted Association of the @WVNationalGuard to discuss how Congress can support these critical members of the Joint Force. I am beyond thankful for their service to our country and to our state.” (March 24, 2026). Capito has dedicated her career to public service in West Virginia and serves on several Senate committees focused on appropriations, commerce, science, transportation, and environmental issues. She is also known for championing infrastructure investment and community support initiatives (official website).

Later that day, Capito addressed ongoing debates regarding gender participation in sports: “I will continue to fight for women’s sports being for women. Biological males competing against women is unfair, unsafe, and creates uncomfortable situations for female athletes.

Despite the clear harm to female athletes’ health and well-being, Democrats continue to vote”
(March 24, 2026).

In her final post that evening, Capito congratulated a new member of the U.S. Senate: “Congratulations to Oklahoma’s newest Senator, Alan Armstrong. He is an outstanding addition to the Senate and I look forward to working alongside him.” (March 24, 2026).

Shelley Moore Capito became the first woman elected to represent West Virginia in the U.S. Senate (official website). A seventh-generation West Virginian who grew up in Glen Dale (official website), she holds degrees from Duke University and the University of Virginia (official website). In addition to her legislative work, she is noted as a mother of three children and grandmother (official website).
