Senator Shelley Moore Capito, representing West Virginia, used her social media platform to address recent legislative actions and national observances in a series of posts published on September 19 and 20, 2025.
On September 19, Capito commented on a legislative development involving government funding. She stated, “Senate Democrats had the opportunity to join Republicans in passing a commonsense, short-term resolution to keep the government open and give us more time to pursue an agreement on full-year appropriations bills. Instead, they decided to vote against this measure that would allow”. The post was made as Congress faced a deadline to avoid a potential government shutdown by passing stopgap funding measures.
Later that day, Capito recognized National POW/MIA Recognition Day with another post. She wrote, “Today is National POW/MIA Recognition Day. We honor all of America’s prisoners of war, those who are missing in action, and their families. They will never be forgotten.” This annual observance is dedicated to remembering U.S. service members who were prisoners of war or remain missing in action.
On September 20, Capito promoted an event related to military service academies: “Today is my first of four Academy Days! Don’t miss your chance to meet with representatives from our nation’s service academies. MORE INFO HERE:” Academy Days are events designed for students interested in attending U.S. military service academies to learn about application processes and career opportunities.
Shelley Moore Capito has served as the senior U.S. Senator from West Virginia since 2015.
