Senator Shelley Moore Capito, who represents West Virginia in the U.S. Senate, shared several updates on her social media accounts regarding technology education initiatives and the ongoing government shutdown.
On November 4, 2025, Capito posted about participating in an event with the Girl Scouts and Google to launch a new digital literacy program. She wrote, “Wonderful to be a part of @girlscouts and @Google’s announcement of the new ‘Be Internet Awesome’ patch launch. Technology is a wonderful tool and learning good habits around it early is critical.” The “Be Internet Awesome” initiative aims to teach children essential skills for navigating the internet safely and responsibly.
The following day, Capito addressed concerns over what she termed the “#SchumerShutdown,” referencing an ongoing federal government shutdown attributed by some Republicans to Senate Democrats. On November 5, 2025, she stated: “Great to join @hughhewitt last night to talk about the #SchumerShutdown and how it’s been hurting West Virginians. It’s time for Senate Democrats to end these political games.”
Later that same day, Capito further criticized Senate Democrats’ handling of the situation: “The longer the Senate Democrats continue this madness, the more chaos Americans will continue to feel. This is especially clear at our nation’s airports. End the #SchumerShutdown”
Government shutdowns have historically led to disruptions in federal services and significant delays at transportation hubs such as airports due to furloughs or reduced staffing among Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees.
Shelley Moore Capito has served as a U.S. Senator from West Virginia since 2015.
