Senator Shelley Moore Capito, representing West Virginia, recently addressed several political issues on her social media account. In a series of posts made on September 16 and 17, 2025, Capito criticized actions by Democratic lawmakers and reflected on the significance of Constitution Day.
On September 16, Capito expressed concern about partisan tactics in Congress, stating, “The Democrat obstruction is way over the top.”
The following day, she marked Constitution Day with a commemorative message: “Today we commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution and celebrate the enduring freedoms it protects for all Americans. “ This annual observance recognizes the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787.
Later that day, Capito commented on ongoing budget negotiations in Congress. She warned about potential consequences if lawmakers fail to reach an agreement before government funding expires: “A government shutdown is a miserable exercise, which has detrimental impacts on essential services that West Virginians rely on. It’s unfortunate that my Democrat colleagues, led by Senator Schumer, seem to be trending that way.” Federal government shutdowns can disrupt numerous public services and affect millions of Americans who depend on federal programs.
Shelley Moore Capito serves as one of West Virginia’s two U.S. Senators and has been active in debates over federal spending and government operations.
