Senator Shelley Moore Capito, representing West Virginia, posted a series of updates on her official X account in late July 2025. The posts addressed federal disaster declarations for West Virginia counties, higher education leadership in workforce development, and recent findings regarding Medicaid enrollment.
On July 22, 2025, Capito shared a statement from the West Virginia delegation about federal assistance for local communities: “Full statement from the WV delegation applauding @POTUS’ approval of a Major Disaster Declaration and an Emergency Declaration for Ohio and Marion counties.”
The following day, Capito highlighted her meeting with a state educational leader: “Great to see BridgeValley Community and Technical College President Casey Sacks yesterday! I appreciated hearing about her current role with the @usedgov focusing on workforce development. Thanks for sharing your experience and expertise!” The U.S. Department of Education oversees national education policy and supports initiatives related to workforce development.
Later on July 23, Capito drew attention to a Wall Street Journal opinion piece concerning public health insurance coverage: “From the @WSJopinion → ‘Meet the Medicaid Double-Dippers. The feds find that 2.8 million people are on two government health-insurance plans.'” According to recent reports by federal officials, millions of Americans have been found enrolled in both Medicaid and other government insurance programs simultaneously—a situation which has raised concerns about program integrity and potential cost implications.
Shelley Moore Capito is currently serving as the senior U.S. Senator from West Virginia.
