On May 4, Capito attended an event for a youth-focused initiative in Fairmont. She wrote, “Great to attend the GameChanger event in Fairmont today to celebrate the program’s incredible work and the addition of two new West Virginia high schools: Fairmont Senior and East Fairmont High Schools! The following morning, May 5, Capito posted about spending time with her family at a local school. She stated, “So fun to spend the morning reading to my grandson’s class. It’s important to take time to sit with our young ones and read with them regularly.”

Later that day, she highlighted an academic celebration at Shepherd University. In her words: “What an amazing celebration of @ShepherdU’s President Dr. Mary Hendrix today. A proud daughter of Shepherdstown as well as an alumna and former student athlete—Mary is a true homegrown president. She is leaving an extraordinary legacy behind—fostering community engagement,”

Senator Capito has dedicated her career to public service for West Virginia and is recognized as a seventh-generation West Virginian who grew up in Glen Dale (official website).
