U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito highlighted progress on several Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) projects during visits to Harpers Ferry, Charles Town, and Jefferson County on April 7, 2026.
In a post that morning, Capito wrote, “This morning, I met with local leaders in Harpers Ferry to get updates on projects funded through Congressionally Directed Spending. These investments will help ensure residents have safe, reliable water infrastructure while supporting continued growth across the region.” (April 7, 2026).
Later that day, Capito visited the Charles Town Police Department and shared her observations online: “Great to stop by the Charles Town Police Department to review progress on CDS-supported projects. I am grateful to see how technology upgrades are helping better serve the community.” (April 7, 2026).
She also toured the Jefferson County Government Complex for an update on public health efforts: “Had the chance to visit the Jefferson County Government Complex to receive updates on the expansion of the Jefferson County Health Department, which was supported through a CDS allocation I advocated for. This project strengthens public health, ensuring families have access to” (April 7, 2026).
Capito is recognized for her longstanding dedication to public service in West Virginia and has served as a U.S. Senator since becoming the first woman elected from her state. She serves on Senate committees focused on appropriations, commerce, science and transportation, and environment and public works. Her priorities include infrastructure investment and community support initiatives. Capito’s background includes degrees from Duke University and the University of Virginia. She is a seventh-generation West Virginian who grew up in Glen Dale.
