Shelley Moore Capito, U.S. Senator representing West Virginia, shared updates on legislative initiatives and local events through a series of posts on her social media account.
On January 7, 2026, Capito highlighted recent legislative efforts aimed at supporting families and rural communities in her state. She wrote, “Republicans’ Working Families Tax Cuts bill is a clear reflection of our commitment to opportunity, prosperity, and helping families thrive. The Rural Health Transformation Program—which WFTC authorized and I helped create—stands to strengthen rural communities in West Virginia”.
The following day, Capito expressed gratitude for the service of a longtime colleague in the state legislature. On January 8, 2026, she posted: “I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for WV Senator Donna Boley and her historic and storied career in the state legislature! Donna was appointed by my dad in 1985 and at one point was the only Republican in the Senate – making her the minority chairman of every single”.
Later that same day, Capito addressed an emergency situation affecting Wheeling residents. She stated on January 8: “I’ve been monitoring the situation in Wheeling involving the collapsed bridge, and my staff and I are in contact with local officials and stand ready to offer support. Please join me in praying for a speedy recovery for those involved.”
Senator Shelley Moore Capito has served as a prominent figure representing West Virginia since joining the U.S. Senate in 2015 after previously serving seven terms as a member of Congress from West Virginia’s Second District.
