Senator Shelley Moore Capito visited Wheeling, West Virginia, on August 25, 2025, to assess ongoing recovery efforts following the June 14th flood in Ohio County. Capito documented her visit and meetings with local officials and federal agencies through a series of posts on her social media account.
In her first post, Capito wrote on August 25: “Great to be on the ground in Wheeling today to receive a briefing and update from the @OhioCountyWVEMA and local officials on the clean-up efforts from the June 14th flood in Ohio county.”
Later that day, she shared another update regarding support for flood survivors: “Stopped by the Wheeling Armory, which is being used to house a @FEMA disaster survivor center for those recovering from flooding, as well as the fire department. I was proud to work with community leaders to help the city secure this facility, which has helped so many.”
Capito also highlighted her visit to another recovery site: “Appreciated getting the chance to visit the @FEMA Recovery Disaster Center at the Triadelphia Community Building. The work they’re doing is invaluable for the community!” (all posts dated August 25).
The senator’s visits come in response to significant flooding that impacted Ohio County earlier in June. FEMA disaster survivor centers are established following such events to provide resources and assistance for affected residents. Local emergency management agencies coordinate with federal partners like FEMA during disaster recovery operations.
