Burdette and Evans Named Recruiting Coordinators for Women’s Basketball

Marshall women's basketball head coach Tony Kemper announced on Wednesday that assistant coaches Jenna Burdette and Rudy Evans have been named as recruiting coordinators.

Burdette and Evans are both entering their second seasons with the Herd in 2022-23.

"Jenna and Rudy have invested considerable energy to our recruiting efforts," coach Kemper said. "They have grown in their knowledge of our university and their ability to communicate the benefits of a Marshall experience.

"Jenna has impacted, both as a player and coach, some tremendous women's basketball programs throughout her career starting in high school. These experiences give her both the relationships and organizational ideas to improve on our recruiting foundation.

"Rudy is a 'grinder' who has earned his way up through the ranks of college basketball. He is a natural relationship builder who will continue to increase our recruiting profile.

"They have earned this promotion and the responsibility that comes with spearheading our recruiting operations. They will continue to represent and promote our university and program brands to exciting women's basketball prospects across the country!"

In 2021-22, Burdette spent her first year at Marshall as an assistant coach while Evans was the Director of Basketball Operations. Evans was promoted in April to assistant coach. The Herd finished 15-13 overall and capped the regular season with back-to-back wins over perennial Conference USA contender WKU. Marshall set a team record last season for the fewest turnovers per game at just 12.7, which led the league and ranked 22nd in the nation. The Herd also led C-USA with the fewest total turnovers (355) which was good for ninth in the NCAA.

Along with success on the floor, Marshall saw great success in the classroom this past season as well as 14 of the Herd's 15 players were listed on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll (GPA of 3.00+) and three received the Academic Medal (GPA of 3.75+).

Burdette and Evans have already been busy this offseason, helping to lead the way in bringing in six transfers and two more freshmen along with two freshmen from the early signing period, who will join the Herd in 2022-23. All six of the transfers have seen success at the collegiate level and address the needs of the team heading into next season.

Kendall Miller comes from Akron and posted a positive assist-to-turnover ratio (1.61) last season falling in line behind the graduated Aaliyah Dunham who was a star last year at taking care of the ball during her one year with the Herd and working with Burdette. Ashley Tudor joins the Herd from Radford and had a great game against Marshall this past season with 14 points and six boards. The Herd won the close contest, 68-64.

Roshala Scott was the second-leading scorer for Southeast Missouri State with 10.8 points per game adding 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest as well. Terah Harness scored in double figures 12 times as a freshman last year at USC Upstate and hit 60 three-pointers. Abby Beeman comes to the Herd from Division II Shepherd University and was a scoring machine for the Rams recording 1,258 points in 65 games (19.4 ppg), while piling up awards and honors. Shanniah Wright is a post player from Georgetown who was ranked in the ESPN Top 100 coming out of high school. Wright shot better than 50-percent from the floor for the Hoyas and picked that up to 53.9-percent in Big East games.

Marshall started its incoming class with two early freshmen signees in November with Meredith Maier and Sydni Scott. Maier was an all-state performer who averaged a double-double at Fairmont Senior High School (Fairmont, W.Va.) and helped lead her school to the state title game. Scott, rated a four-star prospect by ESPN.com, led Cardinal O'Hara High School (Springfield, Pa.) to the state title and was named first team All-Philadelphia Catholic League as well as all-state.

The two additional incoming freshmen are both from West Virginia and were named all-state. Peyton Ilderton comes from Logan High School (Logan, W.Va.) and helped lead her school to its first Class AAA State Championship. Olivia Ziolkowski led Woodrow Wilson High School (Beckley, W.Va.) to the Class AAAA Regionals.
