The Golden Eagles were able to keep their momentum and win streak going Tuesday night as they made the short drive drown to Athens, West Virginia, and swept the Concord Mountain Lions 3-0. Charleston improved to 29-3 and 14-1 in conference play. Win the win, the Golden Eagles secured the number one seed in the MEC South Division for the MEC Tournament next week. Concord fell to 4-24 on the season and 1-14 in conference play.

How It Happened
The Golden Eagles got off to an early start in the first set as they jumped out to an 8-3 lead on a kill by McKenzie Carpenter. UC continued their dominance in the set as a block by Reagan McLean and Pia Selke gave the Golden Eagles a 16-8 lead. A Sage Bearnson kill would give the Golden Eagles the set 25-16 as they took a 1-0 lead in the set.
The second set once again saw the Golden Eagles jump out to a quick lead. A kill from Selke gave the Golden Eagles a 6-2 lead. This time, the Mountain Lions were able to fight back to get the score within one at 6-5. UC went on a 11-3 run, culminating in a McLean solo block to give the Golden Eagles a 17-8 lead. A kill from Selke gave the Golden Eagles the second set by the score of 25-14.
The third set once again saw the Golden Eagles jump out to a 6-2 lead, this time on a kill by Carpenter. Like the second set, Concord fought back to get the score within one at 6-5. A Golden Eagle attack error allowed the score to be knotted at 11 before UC went on a 9-3 run to take a 20-14 lead in the set. A block by Maria Hernandez and Carpenter gave the Golden Eagles the third set 25-15 and the match 3-0.
Offensively, the Golden Eagles were led by Selke and Bearnson with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Hernandez dished out 38 assists to continue her great season. Erin Carmody led the way defensively with 16 digs. McLean came into the match tonight fifth in the country in blocks per set and fourth in total blocks. She added three to the total in the match.

The Golden Eagles will take on cross-town rival in West Virginia State. The Yellow Jackets will make the short drive to the Innovation Center on Friday with first serve scheduled for 7PM.
The matchup will be much anticipated as it is the two top teams in the MEC South Division. UC will look to even the season series and keep their momentum going into the conference tournament.
