St. Albans Proclaims Saturday, November 26, as Small Business Saturday

The City of St. Albans proudly proclaims Saturday, November 26, as Small Business Saturday. This day is set aside to celebrate and support the small businesses that are the backbone of our economy. Mayor Scott James signed the proclamation at a recent St. Albans City Council meeting, encouraging everyone to shop local businesses every day, especially on Small Business Saturday.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy,” said Mayor James. “They create jobs, support our local communities, and contribute to the tax base. It’s important that we show our support for them every day, but especially on Small Business Saturday.”

According to a recent report from the US Small Business Administration, the number of small businesses in the US reached 33.2 million in 2022, with West Virginia contributing nearly 112,000 small businesses to that growing number. According to the same study, nearly 50% of West Virginia employees are small business employees. The SBA defines “small businesses” as firms with fewer than 500 employees.

“It’s vital we support our local small businesses,” says Anthony Romeo, owner of Ancarna Digital Marketing, a digital marketing firm located in St. Albans. “Shopping small business is more than a ‘trendy feel-good vibe.’ It supports local ownership, significantly impacts our local economy, and improves our community as a whole.”

The number of small businesses that have recently established themselves within the St. Albans zip code is evidence of the strong entrepreneurial spirit in our community. These new businesses have joined the many other small businesses that have been serving our community for years.

Small businesses are the lifeblood of our community. They create jobs, support our schools and charities, and contribute to our quality of life. When we shop locally, we keep our money in our community and help to sustain these essential businesses. So please join us in celebrating Small Business Saturday, November 26, and show your support for our small businesses daily!
