How It Happened
The first set got off to a slow start as both teams traded the first 14 points. After two Golden Eagle attack errors gave NDC a 9-7 lead, a Pia Selke kill leveled the set at 9-9. Later in the set, a service ace by Maria Hernandez gave the Golden Eagles a 12-10 lead. A kill from Reagan McLean brought the score to 15-12 and forced a Falcons timeout. Later, a Selke kill ended the set and gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in the match.
Unlike the first set, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead before NDC called their first timeout of the set. A Falcons attack error gave UC a 16-8 lead later in the set. A kill from McKenzie Damon late in the set would add to the Golden Eagles lead and make the score 19-11. Once again, a Selke kill ended the set with the score 25-18 and UC took a 2-0 lead in the match.
Much like the second set, UC once again got out to a 6-2 lead. The set would later be tied up by Notre Dame College at 12. A 3-1 run by the Golden Eagles forced NDC to call their first timeout of the set with the score 19-14. A kill from Bearnson gave the Golden Eagles the 3rd set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
UC was led offensively by Selke with 13 kills and Hernandez who rushed out 39 assists. Defensively Erin Carmody led the way with 23 digs.
