Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin announced the City of Charleston is accepting applications for the Mayor’s Summer Youth Jobs Program (MSYJP) and encouraged local youth to apply.

“Our Summer Youth Jobs Program provides our young people with valuable work experience, opportunities to meet new people and develop leadership skills, and a paycheck,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “If you’re, ages 14 to 18 and looking for a summer job or you know someone who might be a good fit for the program, check out the application or give us a call.”

Applications will be accepted from March 15 to April 15 and be considered in the order in which they are received. The MSYJP will run from June 5 – August 3. The application can be downloaded online at: https://cityofcharleston.applicantpro.com/jobs/2811030.html. Selected applicants will be notified by May 1.

Positions for the Summer Youth Jobs Program are available in the General Services Department, Parks and Recreation Department, Public Works – Public Grounds Department and at Spring Hill Cemetery. Participants, ages 14 - 18, can work up to 30 hours per week. Public Grounds positions may require a 7-hour shift. Applicants, ages 14 – 15, will require a work permit from their county/school.

Youth needing assistance with completing an application can call Parks and Recreation at 304.348.6860 or stop by one of the community centers during regular operating hours. For a list of facilities and hours, visit: https://www.charlestonwv.gov/government/city-departments/parks-recreation.
