The City of Charleston Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for lifeguards to work at one of the City’s four pools: Cato Park, Kanawha City Community Center, Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, and North Charleston Community Center. Eligible lifeguard candidates will be provided the opportunity to be certified, for free, through the City’s partnership with Legendary Lifeguards.

“Seasonal jobs within our Parks and Recreation Department will not only provide our young people with summer work and a paycheck, but also leadership skills, networking opportunities, and experience in public service,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “We are thrilled we can make getting a summer job as a lifeguard at one of our City pools more accessible through our partnership with Legendary Lifeguards.”

“This is by far our busiest and most exciting time of the year,” said Rashaun Poore, Director of Parks and Recreation. “It’s an opportunity for us to employ our youth and give them an early start on real world work experience. Offering free certifications shows the City’s commitment to investing in their futures!”

Applicants must be at least 15 years of age. Applications can be completed online at: https://cityofcharleston.applicantpro.com/jobs/2823226.html. Upon receipt of application, applicants will be provided the Lifeguard Water Skill Evaluation schedule.  Once the applicant passes the Lifeguard Water Skill Evaluation, they will be provided the three-day Lifeguard Certification schedule. Lifeguard certification classes, provided through a partnership with Legendary Lifeguards, will be available at no cost to lifeguard candidates who have passed the Lifeguard Water Skill Evaluation and who plan to work at one of the City’s four pools.

Youth needing assistance with completing an application can call the Parks and Recreation Department at 304.348.6860 or stop by one of the community centers during regular operating hours.
