U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) has released a statement regarding the United States Postal Service's (USPS) initial findings for the Charleston Processing and Distribution Center Mail Processing Facility Review (MPFR). Senator Capito has been actively involved in this issue, having personally spoken with Postmaster General DeJoy and other local officials.

In her statement, Senator Capito expresses her mixed reaction to USPS's findings. While she is pleased to see that the agency plans to invest in new equipment and upgrades for the facility, she is disappointed that some jobs will be transferred to other locations. Senator Capito believes that any job transfers should not be seen as a positive step. She also expresses her disappointment that USPS did not hold the scheduled public meeting on January 30th, emphasizing the importance of community input in the decision-making process.

Senator Capito urges USPS to listen to the community's concerns during the upcoming public meeting and take them into account before making any final decisions. She emphasizes the significance of the facility to the community and hopes that USPS will consider this in their decision-making process.

The initial findings of the MPFR can be found on the USPS webpage for those interested in reviewing them. Additionally, individuals who wish to voice their support for the USPS facility can submit written comments by February 29, 2024, by clicking here.

Senator Capito has been actively engaged in addressing this issue and has personally communicated with Postmaster General DeJoy and other local officials. In December 2023, she wrote a letter to USPS Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, seeking clarity on the future of the facility and highlighting its importance to West Virginia and its employees. The letter can be read by clicking here. Senator Capito later expressed her disappointment with USPS's response, which can be found here.

The community's concerns over the future of the Charleston Processing and Distribution Center continue to be a focal point for Senator Capito. She is dedicated to ensuring that the community's voice is heard and that USPS takes their feedback into consideration when making final decisions.
