U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) has revealed that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is providing resources to the West Virginia Division of Emergency Management for disaster relief efforts in the state. The funding, amounting to $3,944,851.61, is aimed at supporting ongoing recovery projects following a major weather disaster that occurred in April 2018.

In a statement, Senator Capito highlighted the importance of such funding for communities in West Virginia, particularly those susceptible to flooding due to the state's mountainous terrain and proximity to large rivers. She expressed pride in collaborating with FEMA to secure these resources to aid in the continuous rebuilding efforts after the storms and flooding in April 2018. Capito emphasized, "Many communities across our state face flooding due to our mountainous terrain and proximity to large rivers. Because of this, funding like this is critical as neighborhoods and towns continue to band together and rebuild from weather disasters."

The awarded FEMA funding, authorized under Section 324 of the Robert T. Stafford Act, will assist in extending disaster relief to address the impacts of severe storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides that occurred in April 2018.

This announcement underscores the ongoing commitment and support provided by federal agencies to aid West Virginia in its recovery and rebuilding efforts following natural disasters.
