On May 10, 2024, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) visited Morgantown, W.Va., where she delivered a speech at the West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine Spring 2024 commencement ceremony. In addition to her address, Senator Capito was awarded a Presidential Honorary Doctorate Degree by WVU President Dr. E. Gordon Gee.

During her speech, Senator Capito highlighted the significance of the work being done at the WVU School of Medicine. “The education, research, and medical services being done here at the WVU School of Medicine is nothing short of life-changing, and I’ve seen it first-hand across a variety of departments. Each and every one of the graduates today has contributed to that, and the effect that they are making—and will continue to make—cannot be overstated. I cannot wait to see the impact that our graduates will go on to make across our state, country, and world in the future,” she said.

Images from the event show Senator Capito with WVU leadership before the commencement ceremony began; receiving her Presidential Honorary Doctorate Degree; and addressing the graduating class.
